# Set or update a decision

> File, edit, or close a standing rule your agents follow.

[Decisions](/concepts/decisions) are standing rules every relevant agent reads before each run. Here's how to file one, change it, or close it.

## File a new decision

1. Open **Decisions** from your dashboard.
2. Click **New Decision**.
3. Write it as a clear one-liner: *"Always quote the \$49 plan for outbound."*
4. Set the **scope** — which agents it applies to (one agent, a project, or everyone).
5. Save. It takes effect on the next agent run.

## Edit or close

Open the decision to change its text or scope — the update applies on the next run, no redeploy. When a decision no longer applies, mark it **Closed** and agents stop reading it (it stays in your history).

## Good decisions vs. vague ones

| "Never contact competitor domains" | "Be careful with leads" |
| "Default to annual billing in proposals" | "Prioritize good deals" |

Specific, testable rules produce reliable behavior. Vague ones get interpreted inconsistently.
